Fixie Update

September 20, 2009

I told you I would have more pictures as the people started rolling in for CMWC.

So here are some photos. In super hi resolution for you because I don’t want to shrink them before I put them up.

Boy About Town

September 19, 2009

There were just a few more things I wanted to add from my little walkabout today.

There was an old guy with his own face on the back of his T-shirt and the drug shirt… and then the warning

The Boss

September 19, 2009

Rick Ross should start a new hip-hop campaign here.

“Boss Coffee” has a set of ads with Tommy Lee Jones that are too good to miss.

Also, note that the current product they’re selling is ‘Rainbow Coffee’.  I’ll let you know what it’s like as soon as I can get my hands on some.

Pissssssssss!

September 19, 2009

Tokyo makes me want to start smoking and ride bikes all day.

That’s not everything, but maybe half of it.

The other half consists of me really. really. really wanting to learn Japanese.

So since that won’t happen soon, I’ll show you the two bikes I’ve seen so far…

So that’s it. But with the main events in CMWC 2009 coming up, there will definitely be more.  And I’m thinking of contacting some guy with a fixie/tokyo blog to see if he’ll meet up with me and give me some advice.

The Man on the Bike

September 17, 2009

I’ve made it past the 24-hour mark. Starting at 4:00 am in Rathdrum, I drove to Seattle, got on the plane, flew to Tokyo, and then rode trains around for a few hours. I think that it’s 5 am in Seattle now, so…. long.

I also think Japan hates me.  Getting the suitcases through the subway was a bitch, because you can’t fit through any of the stalls really, but then as I was walking down the sidewalk this old man on a bike tried to pass me; as he swerved he hit a bump or something and ended up eating it and scraping his face on the sidewalk.  I dropped my stuff and tried to help him up, but he sort of shooed me away and walked off with his bike.  He was definitely bleeding and I caught up to him about half a block later and tried to apologize, but he just gave me the evil eye and turned away, so I kept walking.  He’s probably spreading the bad news through the secret Japanese underground and I’ll be black-listed everywhere.

Also, I already met a guy who rides a fixie in the dorms, so that’s gonna work out reeeal smoooooth.

The room is pretty bland, but I’ll throw in a picture or two to let you see the size.  The bathroom is even more reminiscent of an airplane bathroom than the one I used over the summer.

2 Days

September 14, 2009

So there are about 49 hours left until I board an airplane to take me across the ocean.

And I’m honestly nervous as all hell.

It’s not as though I’m worried about having a ‘bad’ time really, there’s just a lot to do and everything seems to cost about ten times more than I thought it would. A daily train ticket in Tokyo alone costs way too much. And I have to ride the train every day for at least an hour and a half.

But shiiiiiiit. That was to be expected.

Anyway, before the whole thing really gets going, I wanted to put up a few pictures from the last time I was in Japan to set the mood.  I need to Romance my audience like a fine woman. I would also have more pictures, but my host family’s computer where they were stored pretty much killed itself when I was there. I wouldn’t be surprised if that had anything to do with the pregnant-tentacle-rape hentai my host brother had saved on the desktop. I really wish he hadn’t saved them on the desktop…
